My first photography "gig"...

Another cold and windy day in Evanston..but we can't complain too much because the weather hasn't been nearly as bitter this winter as in years passed (or so I hear..having never experienced them myself)..

I had my first "official" photography gig today..shooting engagement shots for a couple that are in Seminary school at Northwestern..very sweet kids (I can say that now since my 30th birthday is right around the corner)..They contacted me through theknot.com..

This is one of my favorites, I think..what do you think?

Kona's Saga..

Well, it's been a while since I posted, and since no one is reading yet, I don't feel too bad.

Our poor Kona has had a bad week so far. She couldn't get up or walk yesterday morning and so I rushed home from work to take her to the vet since Peter had to get to work for a deadline. The vet took some x-rays thinking she had a cruciate ligament tear. However, upon getting the xrays back, it turned out that it wasn't as bad as she thought. While I was there, I mentioned that Kona is a scavenger and that she had gotten into a jar of Macadamia Nuts from our recent vacation. Well, it turns out that macadamia nuts are toxic..and they can cause temporary paralysis, lameness and depression. Interesting..considering Kona was already getting better as the day went on. She was whining last night from the anesthesia..but proceeded to jump on the bed this morning as usual...

So, it turns out that the vet here has a connection to a vet in Missouri who is doing clinical trials of total elbow replacement--a new procedure that is experimental, but successful. The vet here talked to the vet in MO and he thinks Kona would be a good candidate. However, it involved leaving her there for 2 weeks (I don't want her turning into a Republican!). Kona's quite needy, so I am not sure how she would take it..but it could be great for her in the long run. Peter and I are considering it..

On a positive note: we got High Def cable with DVR today!! Now there is never a worry about missing another episode of Lost or 24 again..

We're baaack...

Hawaii was great!! Very restful..we got there on New Year's eve at about 6 (after we rented the car and got to the hotel). We promptly fell asleep and slept through the New Year's celebration.

We had some great dinners at Roy's, Tommy Bahama's and Ruth Chris..as well as a new place called Cafe Mala, which is owned by the same people that own Maui Tacos. We got a lot of sun and and did a little shopping ;) The hotel was nice..but pretty crowded and lots of kids!

We had the requisite celebrity sighting--Kyle Mclaughlin of Sex and the City (he was Charlotte's first husband) and Twin Peaks. http://www.hbo.com/city/cast/character/trey_macdougal.shtml We were especially quick to recognize him because he is in the Oscar caliber movie Showgirls, which we were just watching on VH1 before we left (apparently they categorize it as a "Movie That Rocks"..I would beg to differ). .

We did watch some news while we were there and were really shocked and saddened by the whole Miners story--quite the tragedy. And the Abramoff thing seems to be heating up...

I didn't take many touristy photos..but I used my new camera and my new 24mm lens to try to take some landscape pics:
